Depends on the map, and to a large extent, skill.
Going first is no more of a gaurantee than dice luck, spoils, etc. However, because there are no other players to "buffer" impacts, they do tend to be much more luck based.

Yes that is correct, however for some reason if your stacks are touching first to hit seems to get ridiculous dice!!

I went second in all those games and won...That's actually a pretty high winning percentage for me going second.

Welcome to the forums hoytwow!

this is not always true but you do get an advantage from going first.
That's why I like freestyle but freestyle 2 player is also redundant b/c whoever joins last tends to get the Element of Surprise on their side.

No. Huge advantage, but there are ways to counter it.

very dumb, but even if you ignore who goes 1st cause sometimes you can get very lucky dice. its always over by round 2, (well 90% of the time)
Which is boring. Why i dont play.

If you win--- you have to spend a few rounds moping up
If you lose--- you have to go through the formality of taking your turns.

it depends on where the troops drop too. If you go first and you start with a bonus, it can be detrimental to the other player.
One time on Great Lakes multiplayer I started with the Indiana bonus. I was so elated that I was getting more than the other players from the get-go! (of course i won that game).

Freestyle is more or less cheating. If you have the practice, speed, and experience it gives the other player no chance no matter what the dice or drop.

Also 2 player is only half luck. If you have the skill you can make up for the luck. Freestyle is luck and a cheep trick on newbies.

I have played many 2 player games and more often than not luck had nothing to do with it.
Claiming a bad drop cost you a game is an excuse for bad play.

on a small map yeah but on any large or complex map its got just as much if not more strategy than a standard game
the only reason you say its luck is you cant play 1vs1

In general, I think 1vs1 can be pretty luck dependent, but I also think I've played a fair share where I've won (or my opponent has won), because of a better 1vs1 strategy.

obviously we can say that having a better strategy than your opponent gives you a better chance of winning, however on countless occasions i have been way ahead in terms of strategical play and then i get hit by a 0 - 10 and the the other player will crash through and kill me.

What is your win percentage on 1vs1? What is my win percentage on 1vs1? haha. You also play a fair amount of freestyle and/or unlimited, which can have dramatic impact on the way 1vs1 games go.

I think its pretty funny myself, I like to donate my points to whoever wants them.
its just a game, no matter which way you play.
if some body needed the points to move up to feel better, i would make junk moves to help them. lol

I very very rarely touch unlimited reinforcements, too much luck biased if one player has a good connection of regions.

I find adjacent forts with no spoils to be the best combination to combat luck in a 1 v 1 situation

I go with Adjacent and Escalating myself, because it keeps both of us from stringing in connect regions early in the game and it similarly provides an incentive to get assaulting a little more, at least in the games I've played. Most of the 1v1 games I play are on medium sized maps, so it is rare to see the spoil cashing beyond 10-15 troops, which I enjoy.
