It is more than logical. All types of craft (land, sea & air) have different screens for different pieces of info so it can be found quickly and easily. Just look at any car/planes/ship, all the dials show something different.
natty_dread wrote:And on the small version, the text overflowing from the monitors looks really awkward.

None of the text goes over the border, it touches it on the small but does not go over or under. Will go and move it a couple of pixels to try and remove that effect/look.

That should be it. The text now has a clear pixel between itself and the border.

Nope, the upper edges of the ones on the right in the small image still look bad.

[Stickied]

I only have one serious issue to address. In your legends...the text sometimes touches the borders of the parts they are in.
What do you know about map making, bitch?

Thanks gimil. Thought I had taken care of that with the last update. Will have a look tomorrow to see what can be done.

Koontz1973...a couple of things for me....
1. i can't read the text on the small legend, it's very blurry.
2. i'd lose the casting light glow middle of each map legend...it's a distraction
3. the white parts of the mountains? are much stronger on the small map but look better on the large map
4. the four little kharki backings to the title...is it possible to give them a very slight black indent effect, much the same as you've given to the bottom legend to make them look indented, i feel it would just lift them.

Praise...i love the colours in green (although the orange is a bit out of place with this colour scheme)

Overall well done!

Thanks cairnswk.
Will look at the small text, turning of the glow completly might help.
I will reduce the glow but do not want to remove it. I placed it there as the flash from the camera taking the photo.
Will get the mountain to look similar with the white.
Black indent coming up.
I take it you mean the orange for the British aircraft. Will have a look at it but it needs to be in that spectrum.
Thanks cairnswk.

What's with the camera taking the photo idea, as i said, it's only a distraction...was it for something just different concept?
Orange...why that spectrum?

Red & cyan are complementary colours in the rgb system. So pairing up reddish-orange with cyan makes sense, they contrast each other well.

However, there are other complementary pairs... if you wanted to go for something more in theme with the rest of the map, you could maybe use green and purple...

Indent on the titles and sig.
Changed the British aircraft background from the orange to a more brown colour. (cairnswk, these colours where used from the flags Red/Blue in the first few drafts. When I went down this route, natty suggested changing them which I did. The red did not work but the cyan did. Thats why these colours. Gone away from the red now but would like to try and keep the blue.
Small and large maps text has been gone over. None touch the sides.
Small maps text has been brought out. It may not be the text looking text (in a sense of fitting the maps style, but legibility has to trump style).
The monitors have lost there glow.
With the different screen, the text shows up much better. I would prefer to keep this for the same reason as the small screen above.

The text looks blurry on the small.

Also, the contrast on the radar screen seems much higher on the small. Frankly, it looks better than the large.

This should bring the two screens into line. There was a slight colour difference between the two.
As for the text being blurry, I cannot see it myself. If anything, it is far less blurry than before the sticky.

Nope, the small still has much higher contrast on the radar screen. You know, the playable part.

I hope you can make the large look the same, I think the small looks much better.

Also, navel forces.

I agree with hippo, however I find the text of the legend of the small version a little hard to look at/read. I think it may be the font.

When blown up 400% the big map text is clear and crisp but the small map text is pixelated.

Make the small screens in the same color and style as the large one, and use the same typeface as well?

Why are there two kinds of screens with different bevels and fonts?

My bad if it's been suggested before.

It is not the font. It may be a tad small but it is readable and clear.
thehippo8 wrote:When blown up 400% the big map text is clear and crisp but the small map text is pixelated.

This is by far not the problem. It is in no way pixelated. And if you blow anything up 400%, it is always pixelated. ;)

The screens are identical in every way. The font is the same as well. The bevel and fonts are also identical from large to small. The difference you are seeing is an optical illusion because of the size. The difference in font for the playing area over the legend is my choice. The playing area would not have a text in it so any text would be out of place so one that is ultimate in clarity was used for the ease of players. The one in the legend is there for style. A lot of the effects for the legend font have been taken away for clarity but a balance between style and clarity I believe has been found.

Thanks for looking in guys.

It's not an optical illusion.

Thing is, bitmap graphics don't have infinite resolution... let's say you have a bevel of 6 pixels, and you resize the image to 75%, then you would have to have a bevel of 4,5 pixels to have the exact same width for it. And since images can't have half-pixels...

Do you have hinting on in the small map text?

The only setting of is the forced auto hinter. When that is on, the text looks a lot brighter but some letters become unreadable.

There's a few things that I'd suggest at this point...

Firstly, there's some pixelation in the frame of the legend monitors. Especially on the large, on the rounded corners. It also looks like the bevel doesn't match the frame perfectly...

Then, I'd suggest making the borders that are between bonus areas stronger than the other territory borders. This will help differentiating the bonuses from each other. You could make them slightly thicker, like half a pixel or so.
