Missed Reward

Post by squeaks_is_mine »

So I have noticed that in games where it comes down to the wire, I sense that players missing turns (specifically if and when it comes down to 1v1) possibly on purpose, seeing as they do get the extra troops (not knocking this because real life events can prevent you from playing a turn), but the real ticker is the fact that the player who did not miss a turn still have to wait after the missed turn. Meaning the player who misses gets the reward of two turns troops and the ability to attack with troops fortified after their attack. And when the game comes down to two people that next move might determine the outcome of the game. Is there a way that if you missed a turn the game treats you as if you took your turn last? I feel that would be fair compared to slowing the game for your own advantage.

The only fair way of treating this is to quit giving any advantage to deadbeaters. Of course when school systems don't even allow red pencils to be used in marking wrong answers and other school systems don't allow a student to fail because it hurts their self esteem we must allow for some advantage for someone who may accidently get disconnected or can't work their turn around a work schedule. Just sayin.

Missing a turn is punishment enough. Your deferred troops can't be used to attack that turn, and are vulnerable to being attacked if you drop them beside your opponent. There are cases where missing a turn can benefit a player, but in almost every game I've played in, missing a turn usually has a negative effect (team games especially). A missed turn may result in a game taking longer to complete, but rarely does it result in any kind of benefit to the player who misses the turn.

I agree in team games/sequential it hurts but in Standard Freestyle it actually benefits when the game comes down to 2 people. For instance: Player 1 takes turn, Player 2 misses but because Player 1 was the last to move he still has to wait for player 2 to play, which benefits Player 2, because the incentive to stall a round with the same results, plus deferred troops to add to borders almost seems to good to turn down.

Ah, I'm out of my knowledge area there. I don't play Freestyle 1v1, so I wouldn't know about that. Squeaks, would you say that actions like postpone defeat, or do they actually help the player who employs them?

I've heard of people stalling on speed games or intentionally missing turns so their opponent will eventually have to leave, forfeiting the game. That kind of play is unsportsmanlike.

I definitely agree with you for freestyle. Players that miss a turn should be considered are having played last. And not being able to start right away. It is not only a pb in 1vs1 but in any kind of freestyle game, especially in team games imo. But you should go speak about that in suggestions forum.
