Canadian Club Appreciation Thread

Some mild CC trivia:
http://www.canadianaconnection.com/2012/03/trivia-eh-canadian-club/
It’s true: Canadian Club was first invented and marketed by American distiller Hiram Walker. For various reasons, he moved across the border, and a little later, began to market his famous whisky.
Maturation — the amount of time alcoholic spirits spend aging — helped Mr. Walker’s sales, and later, sales of the sons who inherited the company. In the mid-to-late 1800s, whisky was commonly aged only a year; maybe two. Walker’s blend was aged for at least five years.
Canadian Club is now produced under Beam Inc., an American company located in Illinois.
Before the “Canadian” part came along, the whisky that’s become famous worldwide was just called “Club”. Due in part to a petition from American whisky makers in competition with Walker, the word “Canadian” was added. Rather than have a negative effect, as his competitors had hoped for, the brand took off.
Canadian whisky is differentiated from Scotch, Irish, and Kentucky whisky.
The ‘secrets’ of Canadian Club’s success can be found in the four grains used to blend it, that the grains are added before ageing, and that the whisky is matured in once-used, white oak, American bourbon barrels (that alone supposedly adds to its smoothness).
Canadian Club is currently sold in over 150 countries worldwide.
No less than Lady Randolph Churchill, while in the posh Manhattan Club in 1872, asked for CC with something a little sweet in it. The Manhattan cocktail was born, 140 years ago, lending early and lasting credence to the uniqueness of the drink we now know simply as “CC”.

Some slightly punchier CC trivia:
http://canadianclub.com/beta/history
Prohibition led to the rise of bootleggers and gangsters like Al Capone. Soon, the waterways between the United States and Canada became a smuggler’s paradise, carrying 75% of the liquor supplied to the U.S. during Prohibition. Before long, Canadian Club™ became the #1 smuggled whisky in the U.S.

They say imitation is the highest form of flattery, but during Prohibition, knockoff distillers, using names similar to Canadian Club®, tried to peddle low-grade alcohols to the unsuspecting. Canadian Club distributors helped protect the brand by urging patrons to request Canadian Club® by name at the bar so they were sure to get the real thing.

Some people ask really stupid questions:
http://ca.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20130709004259AAqiNxD
Q
Can you get drunk from 22 standard drinks worth of canadian club whiskey (40% alc)?

A
You'll get completely plastered if you live through 22 rounds. And you'll have a hangover that could slay a walrus. Unless you're suicidal or have a spare liver on hand i'd go 7-10 rounds if you're trying the whole how drunk can i get thing.

I'm pretty indifferent. I would certainly not say I appreciate it. Rye has left me like that picture in the past. Before cellular phones, I have no idea if there were pictures taken by strangers.

You're the guy who also doesn't like rutabagas, right?

Do you even like the thigh gap?

I love turnip. Rutabagas is not the correct name for turnip.

Thigh gap is awesome.

Rum is fantastic.

I have no problem with this,

Of course I want to sex her up there. She's as hot as Saxi in his 1974 gold reserve winning carnival costume. That does not in any way make it ok. Get a real doll if you're edging toward necrophilia.

Rye is just is not a flavour I desire today. Where's that rum?

Yeah, having sex with a near-comatose person is repulsive both on moral and on aesthetic grounds.

However:
  • Enjoying the view and planning sex for the following day is okay.
  • Enjoying the smoothness of her skin while you carry her to a safe place is okay.
  • Weasling your way into her good books by playing nurse to her the next day is okay.

If you want rum, start your own thread. Or better yet, go move in with my soon-to-be-ex wife. She likes rum. This thread is for rye in general, and especially the lovely elixir commonly known as 'CC'

I prefer Wiser's Deluxe or Schenley's OFC over CC. There is something about CC that I just don't like.

There are a few American brands that write "Whisky" on their labels.

Rye tastes quite delightful without it, but a couple nice limes really add a spark!
