Well as the article states:

Article wrote:[In USA]... By 2004, the most recent year for which government figures are available, about 57 percent of all male newborns delivered in hospitals were circumcised.

Rates were higher prior to this. Given that most people on here are American, I wouldn't be surprised if possibly most CC'ers have been circumcised.

Defenitly snipped. I thought it was more common in developed nations. Had a big issue with this when my boy was born. Wife said no and I was shocked. It just seems so much more sanitary and with The HIV still lurking I say, why not...

I'm assuming that is because you live in Europe. I believe the procedure is much more common in the states. As a matter of fact, I would venture to say the vast majority of American men are; however, I do not have stats to back that up.
Funny, when I saw the title of this thread, I thought it was referring to a vasectomy.
A procedure I highly recommend for those who've "spread their seed" enough.... 8)

I, for one, would like to know how being uncircumcised leads to higher infection rate for HIV.

I'm not circumcised, and that's good. How is it that male circumcision is OK, but female circumcision is a moral crime?

Isn't genital mutilation wrong, across the board?

Because you can't catch HIV from having a foreskin perhaps, or maybe just because there is zero correlation between circumcision and HIV contraction. What do they teach you guys over there about HIV? And besides what is this association with foreskin and uncleanliness, I have a foreskin and its not unsanitary. Do you not wash very often, or is it just that you don't like the idea of washing your dick? I'm amazed the rate of circumcision is so high, why, in fact no WHY, would you want to mutilate an infant? Because you can't be arsed to clean its cock properly?

for the moment lets ignore religion, why don't parents wait untill the child is old enough to make the decision himself, then there will be no regrets whatsoever

Because that's just fucking stupid. How are you going to jam these biblical ideas down your child's throat when they first learn about them at fifteen years old?

i see some myths are brought into discussion here.

let's clear them up.

1. circumcision doesn't make your willy grow bigger
2. circumcision doesn't guarantee that women will have better sex with you.
3. circumcision doesn't protect you from std
4. circumcision doesn't make your dick cleaner. you still have to wash it.

i'm not circumcised but i have friends that are. we've talked about it numerous times. circumcision doesn't have any positive effects.

in fact i have a friend that did his circumcision at 24 and he complained sex started to feel less good after the operation. the explanation we found was that his dick head started losing sensitivity after the operation because it always rubbed against the shorts. but i'm not sure that's the case. it's probably a psichological problem after he got his willy chopped.

A big 'no'.

All points are highlighted nicely by DiM.

circumcision is a very easy medical procedure yet it may have really nasty effects (to the extend of having all or part of your dick chopped off) if it's not done by a well trained doctor.

I'm surprised how many of you are snipped, having personally never seen an unsnipped one. But I do live in the States, and I think it's much higher than a 57% snip rate among 20-30 y.o.'s.

edit: those in their 20's and 30's.

if you want to get youir child to believe religiously that circumcision is right, then you would bring them up in a strict religious fashion

Religion is the only reason.

I know plenty of Catholic, Baptist, Methodist, Atheist, whatever-ist who are snipped, so it's not just a religious thing, at least in the States, as the article stated.

Studies linking male circumcision and AIDS are conflicting. Two recently completed studies in Kenya and Uganda concluded that male circumcision had a 48% - 53% protective effect against HIV over a 14 month period, and the earlier published Auvert Study (criticized for having methodology flaws and overly optimistic conclusions) found that circumcision reduced HIV transmission in South African men by 63% over a period of 21 months. The multi-country Mishra study concluded that circumcision may actually increase transmission of the AIDS virus, however, which is what many earlier studies found. The Brewer Study published in March, 2007, also concluded that circumcision in Kenya, Lesotho, and Tanzania increases the transmission of AIDS.

From ma decidedly anti-circumcision web site... ya dirty bastages. http://www.mgmbill.org/aids.htm

No, but you can stretch out the skin on it until new skin cells grow and create a new foreskin.
