most maps are pretty well defined, the lakes touch each other and the land all touches each other, but the land does not touch a lake unless there is an arrow indicator.
And I did look at the map before I made the moves.
Didn't work.
How often has this happened to you ?
I really tried to get as much feedback as I could when this map was in development. The foundry agreed upon these rules. Many of the new maps have "problems" because people quickly rush into them and don't look. Just make sure you read everything and look at the map before you hit BEGIN TURN.
Sorry for the bad start. I hope this does not put you off to the map. Have fun.

i didnt realize it at first either, but no one to blame but myself...its an awesome map, and only having the boat ramps is the main reason it is

when you play a new map mistakes are that much easier to make, however, only a fool is going to make the same mistake twice. Great Lakes and Cairns Coral Coast are two of the best recent maps in my opinion, they're definitely both worth persevering with.

Well I can tell you that all the Lakes dont connect !
I well remember me Steve Monkey Daklavi and Podge having a game when the map first appeared and 2 of us screwed up a win because of Lake Superior
I like AoM a lot. It's totally different to all the other maps out there, requires a subtly different strategy. Standard strategy works on it more or less and will get you through most games but to really own that map you'll have to develop it. It pushes the game in a new direction.

I used to mess up Scandinavia and Iceland on the classic map.
The name for Scandinavia is closer to the armies on Iceland than those on the real Scandinavia. IMHO this should be moved more to the east and a little bit lower.
