I have noticed 3 problems since ajax became mandatory:

1. The "Age of Merchants" map now has a 5 to 7 second delay for every action. This was one of my favorite maps and I have never had problem with it b4, now it is an exercise in patience and frustration. No longer fun to play, because of the lack of flow.

2. My refresh seems to stick at times and it takes a minute or more to show me the true status of the battle outcomes. (all maps)

3. At times when I press end attacks or end fortification, the game simply goes into pretend load mode and seems to be stuck . (It seems to do this for a indefinite period of time), I have to exit the game and then re enter. Only to find that my turn is still active and my previous command to end turn was not implemented. This is the most irritating of the bugs so far, I am now scared to even try a speed game.

These are the few things I have noticed so far. I hope it helps .

I am always grateful for all the great work done to improve and maintain this site, and I am sure that these minor issues will be dealt accordingly.

Sincerely : richardgarr :D :D 8)

P.S. Thank You :D

I absolutely hate AJAX.
1/2 the time the picture does not reload fast enough when I'm attacking, and I think that I either haven't destroyed any enemy armies, or I have actually conquered it, but it still hasn't refreshed.

Or, the actual "attack" buttons load for like 10 seconds.

It's ridiculous.

I also hate the GM script for it.
It's so annoying, because it displays too much, or too little info.

Please put this back to an option, many people will be much more happy :)

Thanks,
-John

C.

I paid money for the old interface, not the new AJAX interface that is slow and poorly implemented.

Since when is it my responsibility to turn on and use a feature I didn't ask for, didn't purposely intend the funding of, and don't find any benefit from?

Am I paying to test out crappy alpha code? Apparently so, and from what you say it sounds like I should shoulder the responsibility with pride.

No, making it mandatory was a mistake. I won't play speed games now because of it, I've had bad refresh problems from it in the past.

91.5% of our members have been using AJAX for months now and there have been no complaints from them. So I wouldn't call it buggy alpha code.

If you have problems, try disabling greasemonkey - perhaps your computer can't handle the extra computations?

I appreciate how much work you put into the site, but you're not exactly objective on these issues.

No, I have an AMD dual core at something like 2.4ghz, and an NVidia 7900 GTS. I've got enough horsepower/graphics power to run Half Life 2 Ep. 2 at 16x12 with little to no slowdowns.

The AJAX code is buggy and laggy, people are saying so, and forcing it "on" was not nice. My game play is worse (laggier) than it was before.

In most populations the majority is just going to live with what they are handed, which is probably why Windows is so dominant. If 8.5% are complaining that's way huge, is that what you meant by that number?

Enough forum complaints are like canaries in a coal mine, even on issues you disagree with them about. Of course, deciding the canaries from the cesspool flotilla can be difficult.

Why don't you add some client side code to capture the lag statistics, the time between the submit and the updated map army counts? That would tell you, empirically, what people are encountering.

Just to clarify the statistic - 8.5% of active players had AJAX disabled. I didn't mean to say that 8.5% were complaining. I'm sure a large portion of the 8.5% just wanted to be able to run BOB.

I've ran the AJAX code through a profiler (Firebug) and made a lot of optimization. It now runs quickly on my computer.

If you have a bad internet connection and a request hangs, it freezes the game, and this is something I acknowledge needs to be fixed asap. It probably will get done tomorrow.

Right now part of the complaints are due to that, due to wrong greasemonkey setups, and due to resistance to change. So let's see what people are saying a couple weeks from now before jumping to conclusions.

I quite like it. I was part of the 8.5% becuase i wanted greasmonkey, and becuase it was slow. Since the game log fix, things run faster for me.

i play CC from several pcs and it works like a charm on all of them.

a. amd athlon 2800+ with 2gb ram and cable connection
b. pentium 2 @ 300mhz with 256 ram and cable connection
c. amd athlon 64 x2 dual core 5600+ with 4gb ram and cable connection
d. amd athlon 2400+ with 1gb ram and wireless connection.

all of them run perfectly smooth with ajax on and greasemonkey bob.
and trust me if the pentium 2 runs it at an acceptable rate then every pc should.

the only problems i had on all computers was for the games with more than 150 rounds that took forever to load on any computer but now problem is solved.

so my bet is that it's not the pc that causes the lag on CC but rather the internet connection.

i like it now since the old games are faster. Some games have made the page freeze and the computer to die. But since I read this i assume it is due to the lack of fast computers in shantytowns. So i like it now...

cant even remeber greasemonkey..

A lot of people probably just had it on "enabled" unknowingly of the possibility to disable or the effects of it.

The serious Freestyle speed game players (which might in fact be something like 8,5% of the players) got disadvantaged by this and that's why they're complaining now.
