possable tourney im looking into starting....FEEDBACK wanted

Post by Ninjai Jr »

just a thought on base for tourney.....story/plot to follow but looking for a sound board
i have a co-organizer helping with this idea but we want to start small as this is our first tournament
my biggest push for this tournament is FOG and No spoils
i've always felt that those 2 are paired well together cause it put the player to utilize strategy more strongly as opposed to brute force that can come with spoils and sunny settings
and feedback welcome

what we are thinking so far

"Feet Wet Fog Tourney"...
singles
18 players... 3 player AOR1 normal, no spoils, fog
best out of 5 games (at the same time)
debating on best of 7 finals
maybe +1 for the wins... with single sudden death games with the survivors duking it out after that

No spoils and fog tend to last long amounts of time, from what' I've seen. I'd change that to something that would progress faster.

in AOR these setting make the game go pretty fast... it is few and far between in AOR where cards/spoils of any kind even get to be redeemed. In a three player game at least. If they were to roll into a 6 player game or more than 3 then it might be worth changing the settings I agree with the settings though.
...
Thinking more about the win totals I think it should be 3 of 5 and 4 of 7 and 5 of 9 for the beginning round / semi's and finals. While playing 3 people per game will make those totals harder to get it will show actual an actual win versus the hard call between winning a game in the 4th versus the 5 round if we were to leave the settings at winning only 2,3 or 4 respectively. Because with 5 games two people could easily win 2 games each. The tiebreaker at that point... after the 5 games.. is those two peeps would duke it out for the advance spot.

The only thing that is really still up in the air is starting positions... or who is the first set of three-somes. I think there are two options here... one is by ranking at the time of the tourney finalization. The other is random, using random.org to setup threesomes out of the 18 peeps. Once assigned into the threesomes the ladder progresses from there without need to realign.
