An Monthly CC Tournament (that gives away premium)

Post by soundout9 »

So I was talking to lack and OP about an official monthly CC tournament. Something new for 08' lack said he would donate 6 months premium for each monthly 100 player tournament. OP said he is just too busy for this kind of thing. So these are my thoughts on how we could run this.

break it down into 2 divisions.
200 or less games completed
201 or more games completed.

This would be monthly so it would have to be single elimanation.

I want this too be the official tournament of conquer club so we would deffinetly have to stay on top of things and run it right.

All of this is completly me brainstorming right now so if you have suggestions or comments just post.

And if you didn't get it by now I do want a co-director to help out with this. Or we could have a list of organizers and a different one takes this up each month.

Be careful about calling anything OFFICIAL at the moment because official Conquer Club tournaments are something coming in the future. ;)

I'd co-direct, if needed. And it sounds like a good idea, although makeing two divisions makes things a bit crazy, at least I think so. I tend to pass by the ones that I see saying 'x amount of points and up', because what happens when I join and I lose some games elsewhere, then I am down below that, and things like that. I am always open for new ideas though. :)

I know...i've never done a tournament based on points because things to change. That's why i posted this here for ideas and suggestions.

Here is an idea. We could have a one map theme for each month

I really don't like the score setup. Optimus and Gozar did that with CCC Masters, and in the Under 900 Division, some of the early signups already moved halfway up the ranks, making a person with 1600 points in a tournament with people under 900.

I also don't think you need to exclude the top twenty. With 100 slots per division each month you're going to have 200-300 players every month and will need every player you can get.

As I think about the divisions a little bit I don't see it as the same problem as the CCC divisions. Here's how I'd run it I think

Single elimination starting on the first of the month. Signups begin on the 20th or so. Your score at the time of signup needs to be posted for division placement and yes it will change but you're only going to have one month at that ranking and then if it changes too much you'll have to be in another division-more like the premiership in Europe.

100 isn't an easy number to work with but you don't have to keep the same number of players across games.

Round 1 is 25 4 player games
Round 2 is 5 5 player games
Round 3 is 1 5 player game for the championship

It does need to be somewhat quick if you're doing this on a monthly basis IMO.

For the Maps, I'd rotate them through with smaller maps used in Round 1 so it finishes up faster. I'd save the really large maps such as Actium, Conquerman and 2.1 for Round 3 games.

Just brainstorming a little here this morning.

We sorted everyone's score again just before the tournament began, so there was not much disparity at the beginning.

How are you going to handle the sign-ups for new players each month on this one? I just have a feeling that while a consistent tournament each month is a nice idea, it could fall apart pretty quickly after just a couple of months.

Each one is going to last about 6-8 weeks at least, which means that after a few months you are going to be keeping track of at least 2 or 3, if not more of them at a time. That is going to get time consuming and prevent you from running other tournaments at the same time.

I wasn't saying that you couldn't do one every month, I was just pointing out that if you do, it will pile on faster than you think. If anyone knows that, it's me, the guy who runs 11 at a time.

As for making it into a series of tournaments, I think that would be an excellent idea. I have the Point Grabbers series that is very popular due to its fast, quick, and furious nature. Godd has the "You're Eliminated" series that is very popular, Gozar has the "Battle" series as well. Using this idea as a springboard for your own personalized series would be a great idea. Come up with a good name for it that is easily distinguishable from all the others, make it known that it will be a series, and then make it your personal premier tournament.

I think that would be a great idea, and then because you would be running them one at a time you could make the format a little more interesting than simple single elimination, and really make a name for yourself.

Let me know if you need any help with bouncing ideas off of people. I do have access to quite a few of the big-time organizers.

Well since i'm such a gaming nerd i think i'll do a "Battle of the Consoles" theme. But I really have no clue how much interest there would be on something like this.

Another could be "Battle of the Game" doing a theme on sports. But again I limit interest. Is there any general name you could think of?

Well, let's see. Most of the current ones that are series tend to have pretty generic names such as Point Grabbers or "You're Eliminated". That allows them to use pretty much whatever maps or settings they want without dulling the interest.

My first suggestion would be to fine tune your format to something that you really like and that you think would be liked, and then come up with the name for it.

How did you run your point grabber so i don't have the same type of settings?

was it double single elimination? did you have points for places?

EDIT: just thought of this. A little spin of your allspark league. Since i don't want a league tourny i could do this.

4 player games. 25-50 players points for each game.
1st place= 5
2nd place=3
3rd place=-1
4th place=-3

then have a set number of games like I don't know 20(+/-) games for each player or so. They come out in 4 game batches. So premium only.

Then in the end the person with the most points is declared the winner.

Point Grabbers is a simple 16-player single elimination bracket, that's it. The appeal is the fact that very few get in and I announce them at different times, so it has a surprise element like a Battle Royale. :)

As for yours, send me a PM with a nice detailed idea of what you think would be good, and we'll see what we can come up with.
