after the pilot with pike, three other pilots were pitched, there is a whole wikipedia article about this check it out, search TOS episodes

I did a while back. Unless some scumbag trying to impress people online got it changed somehow, I don't recall there being that many. Also helps when you read a book that covers the topic written by Lenard Nimoy.

Or you could read Gene Roddenberry's account, I would trust the series creator over some lowly actor any day.
